Fic Snippets: Over Control (KotOR
Apr. 24th, 2022 09:43 pmNotes: An approximation of Visas discussing Meetra's influence and how it affects her in particular. I've barely written anything with Visas, and compounded with that is my intimidation about writing her because I adore her character, but she becomes fundamental to Meetra and learning how deeply her influence affects Visas shakes her. It's something I wanted to write about, so I did.
Meetra peered at Visas. The room was dark, and she couldn’t see the bottom half of Visas’ face much clearer than the top half, but she didn’t need her sight to know her friend was troubled. She moved a little closer as Visas shifted her weight from one foot to the other.
“Are you alright?”
Visas nodded, just once, her veil rippling with the movement. “All is well,” she said, but her voice was a little lower than usual, and her jaw was tight.
Meetra sighed. “If you’re sure. But please don’t hesitate to tell me if something is wrong.” She went to walk away, but Visas seized her upper arm.
Meetra tensed in the half second it took Visas to register her discomfort and let go. Something in the back of Meetra’s head told her to be alert - maybe it was her past experience, or maybe it was Kreia - but Meetra couldn’t muster the will to be wary of Visas. “What is it?”
Visas looked like she was fighting with herself, but she spoke. “I… am concerned. I have followed you without hesitation, and I will continue to do so. I trust you. But… I have found myself feeling strangely sometimes when I am with you. It’s as if your will has become my will, and I act on it without thinking. It does not concern me because of what you ask me to do. It concerns me because I do not think when I do it. Can you understand that?”
Meetra understood very well, and she felt like her stomach had fallen out of her and her heart had gone still. This was exactly what the Council was afraid of - exactly what she was afraid of. “I understand, Visas. I’d never want you to feel forced to do anything.”
Visas shook her head. “Nihilus forced me. He would torture me if I disobeyed. He would take over my mind deliberately. But with you… it’s as if the choice was already made, ages ago. Before I was even born. I do as I was meant to do.”
Meetra pursed her lips. “Have you tried to resist it?”
Again she shook her head. “There is no opportunity to resist. It’s only after the acts are carried out that I even realize what I’ve done. If it were not you, I would… I would be lost. I would not want anyone else to have such power over me.”
Meetra placed her hands gently on Visas’ shoulders and looked into her veil. “Visas. I don’t want to have that power over you. Over anyone.”
“I know. But if you tell me not to do as you wish, it might destroy me.”
“That-” Meetra stopped, contemplating that. “I won’t do that, then. But Visas, I’m going to try and figure this out. I don’t want to manipulate you.”
